"I can confirm that a round of sniffing has started"

Hey Arrested Development fans,

BIG NEWS: We may be getting a movie, according to an exclusive straight outta Bateman's mouth. Jason Bateman (obviously) and Jeffrey Tambor have already agreed and I can't imagine the rest of the folks would say no. If you've ever listened to the commentary on the dvds you can tell how much they all loved doing the show.

This is so frakkin' exciting. I am squeeing like a fan girl.

Ah, my own history

I don't know why I was digging into the past today but for some reason I felt the need to find out if my old ella account still worked. All you SLIS folks know about ella. Anyway, it was totally still there. And that is how I stumbled across this gem I did as a goof in photoshop class one day. Ah, those were the days. In case you don't get the cross reference (get it, cross reference! Hee. I slay me.), in the town of Effingham, IL this guy paid for an almost 200 ft. tall cross to be built right next to the highway. So, of course Squater and I had to stop and take some pictures. I can't atcually post all the pictures I photoshopped because I fear the zealot christians would not appreciate my humor. So, this pic will have to suffice.

Rochelle, Rochelle, I miss you. Come spa with me again someday.

Iran so far away

I missed SNL this week, like most weeks, actually. But I found this online today and it cracked me up.

I think the best line comes at the end:

"I know you say there’s no gays in Iran
But you’re in New York now baby"

Heee. Enjoy!

Robot Chicken

So, once again, Netflix has given me access to a show I would previously never have watched. That gem of a show is Robot Chicken.

Conceived by the adorable Seth Green and some other guy named Matthew Senreich, Robot Chicken is claymation and stop motion animation of toys that satirizes pop culture. And it's brilliant.

For example, there's a little sketch where Skeletor, Mumm-Ra, Cobra Commander, and Lex Luthor are car-pooling and get stuck in traffic. What we learn is that Skeletor is one flatulent mother frakker. Also, Lex taunts two children in the car over and bitches about how he should have just teleported into work. The rest of the baddies complain about Lex's complaining. Well, then their "good guy" counterparts breeze past them in the faster lane and Lex loses it. He teleports but it backfires and he ends up in the car with two kids he was taunting. Hee.

Anyway, the episodes are only about 15 minutes long or so. They are just jam packed with funny goodness. The show even won an Emmy. These guys will mock anything I do believe. They do spoofs about Buffy, Voltron, Fidel Castro, Disney, etc.

So, check it out on Cartoon Network if you have a few minutes to spare. Season three is starting soon.

In other tv watching news, I am steadily making my way through MI:5 (Spooks) season two. Only one disc left before I get to season three. B-Mart, you really need to look into watching the dvds because the show is actually an hour long and when they put it on A&E or BBCA they end up cutting stuff out. Can't wait for the next disc because Tess comes back to wreak some havoc. Awesome.

Cop eats pot brownies, Thinks he's dying. Idiot.

Dear Baby Jesus,

Why is the world filled with such stupidity? I mean, shouldn't a police officer have the most rudimentary knowledge of what drugs do to a person?

Sincerely,

Jalehlabad

Human Giant

So, I think you all might be missing one of the funniest shows on tv. It wouldn't be hard to miss as it's on MTV and I don't know too many other thirtysomethings who still watch MTV. Excepting myself, obviously. Something about those Real World/Road Rules Challenges keeps pulling me back.

Anyway, Human Giant is a new MTV show and it's funny. I mean, really funny and in a very wrong way. Human Giant is the three man team of Aziz Ansari, Rob Huebel, and Paul Scheer. They have several funny skits. I love the Shutterbgs skit where Aziz and Rob act as agents to child actors and then fund a move called Lil' 9/11. It's very wrong and inappropriate. And that is just how I like my humor. They have a bunch of their skits loaded onto their website. I suggest watching some of them. Although, I think I might have serious love for Sensitivity Training and Predator vs. Predator over all the other skits.

So, check it out on Wednesday nights.

The Office (UK edition)

Over the last few weeks I watched the BBC show The Office. This show is widely known as the basis for the US version of the The Office, which I have yet to watch. I wanted to see the Brit version first because it came first and because I do love the British sense of humor.

Anyway, The Office, stars Ricky Gervais, Martin Freeman (who was great in Love Actually), Mackenzie Crook, and Lucy Davis (one of three good things about Studio 60) as David, Tim, Gareth, and Dawn. They all work for a paper company in Slough, England and for some reality show they are letting their work lives be recorded. Their jobs are about as exciting as you think it would be to work for a paper company. Where the comedy comes in is in the characters of these people. David Brent is quite possibly the best and worst boss ever. He makes horrible jokes and wants to be your friend but I am not sure he expects his employees to actually work. Gareth is the annoying guy who you want to kill in your office. He's the guy who thinks he is so cool and suave but in reality is kind of a wanker and a jerk. Then there is Tim. Tim is, in a word, adorable. He's the guy at work who you sit with and make fun of all the other people you work with. Tim finds his partner in crime in Dawn.

There are other minor characters who move in and out of the show like Keith the accountant; Finchy, David's friend; Jennifer, David's boss, and in season two all the folks from Swindon.

This show is the kind of funny that is uncomfortable. It makes you cringe and laugh all at the same time. It's only fourteen episodes long, total. So, they make their point and go out on a high note. I know I was left wanting more. So, check it out.

Late to the party

Well, last night I finally sat down to watch Little Miss Sunshine. Man, I am sorry I waited this long to watch this fabulous movie. I know that Beth reviewed this flick months ago but LMS just got lost in my overflowing netflix (which, btw, I am sure to never get through and is most likely the reason why I never read books anymore) queue .

Anyway, to recap, Little Miss Sunshine is about a family that travels to California so the daughter can compete in the Little Miss Sunshine competition. And, since it's a road trip movie you just know some bad things are going to happen. I don't want to give away any details for those still waiting to watch this film but the talent competition was so damn funny. I haven't laughed that hard since I last watched that episode of Arrested Development where Mrs. Featherbottom took a spill off of the stairwell into the living room.

I am trying to watch all of the flicks nominated for best picture this year but I am not sure I am going to get to do that. I loved this film and hope it gets some award recognition. So, go check it out.

The one where I try to be entertaining but I don't quite think I pulled it off

Today I received one of the funniest emails I've gotten in a very long time. I laughed out loud several times. Now, most of my dear readers may not find any of these things funny for a couple of reasons. Those reasons are as follows:1) you never worked at HC and 2) you do not actually know the people I am talking about. But I can say with great ease that this group of folks are the only reason I maintained sanity while living in SoInd (that's my attempt to try to make Southern Indiana sound cooler like SoCal only it's not quite as catchy sounding).

Nota bene: To keep the anonymity of all persons involved, I am using what are commonly known as the porn names of my pals (i.e. Childhood Animal + Street you grew up on) with a few exceptions.

And now on to the show.

Cheap Beer: A farce in five acts.

Setting: The Broadway on a cold Wednesday night. The rag tag team of scholars and collegiate workers sit in plastic chairs in front of a "fireplace" drinking many a beer. Many, many a beer. Although, I understand that Rico Suave did not drink enough to cover the drinking habits of himself, myself, and Poochie Goldenrod as he specifically agreed to do. Punishments will abound for this lax treatment of alcohol. Possibly food was eaten but not near enough to soak up the beer. And really, that's the way it should be.

Act One:
Rico Suave stands in the lobby of the Broadway awaiting a table. Another couple comes in and sees a brown man. He must work here and not actually be a professor. Couple: IS THERE A TABLE AVAILABLE, HISPANIC, ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT MAN? Rico: Que?

Act Two:
As our rag tag team sits down, Salty and Smoky Nuts is trying to decide if he should take his nuts to his mother's home so they can be enjoyed over a rousing game of football. Deucey Idlewild, well known for only half listening to Salty and Smoky Nuts, asks if his nuts are Salty or Smoky. An innocent question for sure, until Butterscotch West gets involved. Butterscotch inquires, "wouldn't you be the best judge of that, Deucey?" Butterscotch is alluding to the former relations had between Salty and Deucey. Does Deucey ever get an answer? Will Deucey beat down Butterscotch? Tune in next week.

Act Three:
As it goes with beer drinking the conversation tends to get out of hand. Someone, probably Yukon Locust, calls for a song. Butterscotch and Snoopy Missionwood can not let this challenge go. As if they had been practicing for weeks, they begin belting out the chorus to the old standard "Dick in a Box." Butterscotch and Snoopy remind us how one gets their dick in a box with this, "One: You cut a hole in a box. Two: You put your junk in that box. Three: You let her open that box. And that's the way you do it." Soon after Salty and Smoky Nuts asks for pen and paper to write down these instructions.

Act Four:
Yukon has gone home to take care of his child, Madison the Second. But never fear because Rosey Goldenrod swoops in to take his place. Someone asks innocently, "why does Bovine Jaw not let his employees have family pictures on their desks?" Rosey Goldenrod replies (rather smartly I might add), "who knows? Bovine Jaw does like to swing his miniature p***s around." To which I say, brava.

Act Five:
Poochie Goldenrod, well known for her penchant to move houses on average of once a year or so, has decided that the Goldenrod family will once again be moving. Poochie recreates the scenario where she tells her mother-in-law about the move.
Poochie
: Guess what? We are moving again. Isn't that great? Not as great as my ta-tas but great none-the-less?
MIL: Are you trying to kill my son?
Poochie: Yes, but only in the bedroom with my inner thighs.

Round One goes to Poochie and her ta-tas.

Finale:
The rag tag team of scholars and collegiate workers stumble back to their homes. It's a good thing the Goldenrod's are related to the town po-po.

HC folks, I miss you all.

ETA: Sorry for the Deucey misspellings.

A new favorite

Maire comes through again.

Check out John Green's, author of ya books Looking for Alaska and An Abundance of Katherines, video blog with his brother. Some of the funniest stuff I have seen in a while.

I actually laughed out loud at work. Some of the catalogers looked at me strangely.
