341. Ruby Blue ~ Roisin Murphy (last listen: 6-9 months): Angie sent me this cd because I loved the title track so much. The rest of the disc isn't really like Ruby Blue but I definitely like the piano pop/trip hop feel on this disc. You all should listen to Ruby Blue and Ramalama.
342. The Weight Is A Gift ~ Nada Surf (last listen; never): I downloaded this after hearing a song on Bill's mixwit mix. I thought this disc was very good and I can't wait until I can listen to it again.
343. God's Son ~ Nas (last listen: 3-5 years): This disc isn't bad but if I have to choose between Nas and Jay-Z; I will pick Jay-Z.
344. Made of Bricks ~ Kate Nash (last listen: 1-3 months): I love this disc. No, I lurve it. I just want to play it over and over and over. And then go have a pint with Ms. Nash and make fun of all the people around us.
345. The Downward Spiral ~ Nine Inch Nails (last listen: 5+ years): I know Marissa will be disappointed but I was never able to get into this band as much as the rest of the world. The disc still holds up and the music is sound but I have no desire to keep this on the Zune.
346. Nevermind ~ Nirvana (last listen: 6-9 months): Wow. I still love me some Nirvana. This disc is still amazing. Amazing. This disc defined my generation. I still remember when Kurt Cobain died and my then boyfriend wore black for a week because he was in mourning. Plus, it's one of the best cds to clean to that I have ever come across.
347. In Utero ~ Nirvana (last listen: 1-3 years): A disc either about the cost of fame or Courtney Love. Either way I dig the anger behind it.
348. Tragic Kingdom ~ No Doubt (last listen: 3-5 years): I am still mad that some assholes I am not even friends with made me late to Pointfest 5 thereby missing No Doubt's performance. I didn't like those jerks in high school and had we not had one friend in common I would have left those fools in Illinois. Anyway, I still like this cd even though I still think of my old supervisor from Target every time I hear Spiderwebs (it was her outgoing message for a long time).
349. Rock Steady ~ No Doubt (last listen: 1-3 years): I love how this disc is a bit of a departure for them. Plus, there are several songs that I love to work out to.
350. Shake Hands With Shorty ~ North Mississippi AllStars (last listen: 3-5 years): Jam-band meets blues equals this fun disc. I forgot about this disc but I will be listening to it again very soon.
351. O, Brother, Where Art Thou? ~ Various Artists (last listen: 6-9 months): I can only have love and gratitude for this cd because it was my introduction into the awesome world of Alison Krauss. Plus, it's just got some great bluegrass gems on it.
352. The O.C. Mix Vol. 1 ~ Various Artists (last listen 1-3 years): I listened to this a lot when B-Mart first gave this to me but then I forgot about it. Now that I am an O.C. convert I can appreciate this disc even more than I did before. Oh, and thanks O.C. for introducing me to Rooney.
353. Ok Go ~ Ok Go (last listen: 1-3 months): I only recently downloaded this so I can't really make any decent musing about it.
354. Oh No ~ Ok Go (last listen: 1-3 months): I first heard these guys when they opened for Death Cab. I was hooked. I love this cd and it makes me want to dance. Please tell me you all have seen the treadmill video. If not, here it is:

360. Big Boi and Dre Presents,,, ~ Outkast (last listen: 1-3 years): A very good greatest hits album.
361. Speakerboxx/The Love Below ~ Outkast (last listen: 1-3 years): The double disc that broke and also solidified Outkast as one of the best rap groups in the biz. I am not sure I know a person who doesn't own this and if I do, please don't burst my bubble. Go buy the disc yourself and listen.
362. Beware ~ Panjabi MC (last listen: 1-3 months): I own this disc thanks to Bill. And I truly do thank him for this gem. I love it. I love the mix of Panjabi music and rap. I used this cd to prove that the subaltern can speak. And my students loved it. I just wish this guy would make another cd because I want more of what he's got.

A to Z cds: Day 67
327. Curtis/Live! ~ Curtis Mayfield (last listen: 5+ years)
328. Fumbling Towards Ecstasy ~ Sarah McLachlan (last listen: 5+ years): This cd always reminds me of the television show Felicity. For those of you who watched and loved Felicity, well, you know why. For those of you who don't...it comes down to this little recapped passage from TWoP,

329. Live at Blueberry Hill ~ Javier Mendoza (last listen: 5+ years): My friend Rochelle gave this to me a while ago. Mendoza is a local musician who has a pretty good local following. I think I might have to catch one of his shows after relistening to this double disc.
330. Question the Answers ~ The Mighty Mighty Bosstones (last listen: 5+ years) I think I bought this cd after I happened to catch these guys at Lollapalloza. What I now recall was I must have been on drugs because this cd is not so much good.
331. Greatest Hits 1974-1978 ~ Steve Miller Band (last listen: 5+ years): I was kind of dreading listening to this disc but I found that the time went by fairly quickly. I am sad (?) to say I must have listened to this disc a lot because I remembered the words to almost every song. But seriously, I really do love your peaches and I wanna shake your tree.
332. Blue ~ Joni Mitchell (last listen: 3-5 years) I am not ashamed to admit that I pretty much bought this cd because it was on one of those lists. You know the ones; the lists that say top 50 cds by women you should have. I remember having a lot of the cds on that list and then coming across Joni Mitchell and realizing I'd never listened to her before. So I bought this cd. And then I realized it wasn't really my cup of tea. I mean I liked a few of the songs but on the whole, I felt rather eh. I get why people are so into her but she's not really for me.
333. Good ~ Morphine (last listen: 0-3 months): What can I say about Morphine that I haven't already said? I love this bad. Even though Mark Sandman, the lead singer, died almost nine years ago (god, has it been that long?) I still always have one of their cds in my car. Always. I remember the first time I saw them at Mississippi Nights. It was like an orgasm in my ears. It was brilliant and beautiful and perfect. And I was hooked. I saw them live five more times and it was never enough. When Sandman died I mourned for days. I listened to their music non-stop. I almost got into fisticuffs with a guy when he said they sucked. I would have won that fist fight. It makes me sad that all I have are eight cds for the rest of my life. I suppose I should be grateful that I even got that much but I am selfish. And I wish Mark Sandman was still here to seduce me with his gorgeous voice. Picking favorite songs off these discs is going to be hard but I am going to try to limit the number to four.

Ben marches out of his room and shouts, "You've got to tell me what she sees in the guy because, seriously, Greg can kiss my ass." Meghan says, "Mine too, any time he wants." Sean advises, "Calm yourself down, roast a few marshmallows." Ben snaps, "I don't want marshmallows." Meghan interjects, "You want Felicity." Meghan tells him that Felicity wants him too. She says that as Felicity's roommate, she has the inside track. She launches into a lengthy tale about how whenever Felicity is interested in Ben, she listens to Sarah McLachlan CDs. If I cared enough about Miss Lilith Fair, I'd repeat what Meghan says verbatim, but basically it boils down to the fact that whenever Felicity is enamored of Ben, she listens to her Sarah McLachlan CDs exclusively. Ben thinks it is the dumbest theory he's ever heard, while Sean thinks it may be valid. Meghan thinks Ben should tell Felicity how he feels. Ben agrees and storms out. When he's gone, Sean asks Meghan if her theory is real. Meghan snorts and rolls her eyes which makes Sean laugh.

I am trying to get back on track with this listening project. I listened to most of these at the hospital or on the train to work.

Anyway, I think a great day involves sun, a porch, a swing, a good book, and some Bob Marley in the background.

A to Z cds: Day 65
310. American Life ~ Madonna (last listen: never): A gift from one of my gays and I can say that none of these songs really grabbed my attention. That's a real shame. Anyway, hopefully Confessions will be better.
311. Confessions on a Dance Floor ~ Madonna (last listen: never): Well, if nothing else, I really do dig the sung Hung Up. Thanks for this cd too, gays. See, Huckabee, the gays are good for giving you Madonna's music.
312. Patchanka ~ Mano Negra (last listen: 1-3 years): This disc and the one listed next are the reason I got a sprained ankle the first day of my second trip to Italy. Well, it's not totally Mano Negra's fault; I also blame the pot hole in front to the music store and the lack of street lights. Let's just say that I wanted a Mano Negra disc so badly that I was willing to hobble around for the next eight days in some serious pain. Miss Trish can attest to that. In the end, it was totally worth it to get these great discs. Favorite songs:

A to Z cds: Day 64
305. Madonna ~ Madonna (last listen: 5+ years): I haven't listened to this disc in ages. What's crazy is that it still sounds pretty fresh. People like to crap on Madonna but she knows how to make a good pop album.
306. Bedtime Stories ~ Madonna (last listen: 1-3 years): I forgot how much I liked this disc. It's got a bit of the dirty pre-motherhood Madonna that we've all forgotten about. But I really dig the songs Survival, Secret, Take a Bow, and most especially the co-penned with Bjork, Bedtime Story.
307. Something to Remember ~ Madonna (last listen: 5+ years): This is a collection of many of Maddona's ballads. I was thinking I would really not groove on this disc but I didn't hate it as much as I thought I would. However, I was reminded of how much I loathe the song "This Used To Be My Playground." That said, it's pretty impossible to deny the awesomeness of the song "Crazy For You." Especially if you slow danced to this song in like the sixth grade. Heh.
308. Ray of Light ~ Madonna (last listen: 1-3 years): I think this might be some of Madonna's finest work. It's a great pop album and I can't not dance when I hear Ray of Light.

A to Z cds: Day 62
So we are getting ready to enter the Led Zepplin phase of the listening project. I know this is going to sound like blasphemy to some of you but I've never really listened to Led Zepplin before. I have these discs because DiRRty thought I should have them. I've never been opposed to Led Zepplin; it's just I've never really been exposed to them either. I know that they have influenced some of my favorite bands and musicians. That's why I graciously accepted these discs in the first place. I've always wanted to be a fan and really know their music but I haven't taken the time to do so. But now, as they are reuniting it seems fitting that I should finally listen to these discs. And possibly learn to love Led Zepplin.

Man, I am dumb for not listening to these guys before now. Communication Breakdown is a genius song. Now I need to get my hands on Led Zepplin IV. I am blown away. I hope that my being blown away makes up for the fact that I have been retarded for 31 years.

287. So Long, So Wrong ~ Alison Krauss and Union Station (last listen: 6 months - 1 year): Whoops! I listened to these a bit out of order since this gem was technically released before New Favorite. Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.

289. Lonely Runs Both Ways ~ Alison Krauss and Union Station (last listen: 0-3 months): This cd represents one of the best concerts I have ever been to. I say AK & US perform on this tour in Evansville, Indiana. It was amazing. No opening band; just these guys one the opening night of their tour playing for over two hours. Plus, we were sixth row center. I can honestly say that night was amazing. I think Squater agrees.

I bet you all thought that I had forgotten about listening to all of my cds. I haven't it's just taking me a lot longer than it took good ol' GMYH. And now, on with the list...
281. Misfits ~ The Kinks (last listen: 1-3 years ago): I bought this cd because it was on one of those lists of cds that everyone should own. And honestly, I have tried to like this disc. But it's just not my thing. I apologize to Kinks fans everywhere. I can see why people like their music but I won't be getting tickets for their reuniting tour.
282. Kiss My Ass: Classic KISS Regrooved ~ Various Artists (last listen: 5+ years): I am not ashamed to say that I bought this cd basically because of the Garth Brooks cover of "Hard Luck Woman". My Garth love was fairly well documented earlier in the year. What I can say is that whoever thought that Toad the Wet Sprocket should cover Rock -N- Roll All Night is a freaking moron. How a band can take one of the most essential rock songs in the history of music and make it sound whiny and pathetic is just a travesty. Shame on you Toad the Wet Sprocket. Shame. On. You.

When I Look In Your Eyes ~ Diana Krall (last listen: 1-3 years): I got into Diana Krall my first year at IU because Squater was in desperate need to find her cover of Besame Mucho and then listen to it 4,000 times. In my living. Since we lived together. But I have to say that he was right. She has a killer voice. I really dig her cover of "I've Got You Under My Skin."
284. Christmas Songs ~ Diana Krall (last listen: 1 year): I got this two years ago for Christmas. Yes, I like listening to Christmas music. So, shoot me. But again, Diana does her covers with such class that you sort of forget these are Christmas songs and just hear her smooth voice.
285. Every Time You Say Goodbye ~ Alison Krauss and Union Station (last listen: 0-3 months)
286. New Favorite ~ Alison Krauss and Union Station (last listen: 0-3 months): What can I say about Alison Krauss? I love her. I love everything she does. Her voice is amazing. Her fiddle skills are superb. I saw her in concert almost three years ago and it ranks up there in the top five of all concerts I have been to. And I've been to a lot of concerts. Anyway, she can kind of do no wrong in my eyes. My pal Robyn once mentioned that she thinks Alison does too many Jesus songs but I think her tradition of one per record is fine. Her records are a reflection of who she is and even if her songs are about things I don't personally believe in I can still appreciate their beauty.

A to Z cds: Day 59
275. Songs in A Minor ~ Alicia Keys (last listen: 3-5 years): Didn't most girls buy this cd? Fallen is still a terrific song.
276. Devil Without A Cause ~ Kid Rock (last listen: 5+ years): All this cd reminds me of is going to the tanning beds in preparation for my sister's wedding. My sister got married the year this cd was pretty big and we had to wear these backless dresses. I didn't want to be the pale girl next to all of her super tan friends. So, I hit the tanning beds hard that summer. I would go cook myself every morning and listen to this cd. And boy did I ever get tan. I think that is the tannest I've been in my life. I look at those pictures and I am amazed. You know, the first couple of songs aren't so bad but then once you hit around song four you realize that all these songs sound the same. And they aren't all that great. Although, I still like Badwitdaba.

279. Born Under A Bad Sign & Other Hits ~ Albert King (last listen: 3-5 years): Albert King is the man. This guy can play the blues; he discovered Stevie Ray Vaughn. He's a musical genius and most people have no idea who he is. I love listening to him play the guitar and sing his amazingly great blues songs.
280. In Session ~ Albert King and Stevie Ray Vaughn (last listen: 3-5 years): This disc is fabulous. Basically, it's Albert and Stevie on stage playing their songs and talking about how they met. I highly recommend this disc.

A to Z cds: Day 58
270. Come Away With Me ~ Norah Jones (last listen: 3-5 years): I haven't listened to this cd in a while, as you can see. But her voice is still really beautiful. The songs aren't so remarkable in and of themselves; it's her voice that makes this cd so special.
271. Pearl ~ Janis Joplin (last listen: 1-3 years)
272. Greatest Hits ~ Janis Joplin (last listen: 1-3 years): There's a lot of duplication between this disc and Pearl but the differences are stunning. For example, this disc has possibly the greatest Janis song "Piece of My Heart" on it. Man, the feeling in that song is so palpable. It's great. I also really like Bye, Baby.
273. Walking Distance ~ Robert Earl Keen (last listen: 3-5 years): This cd is something I acquired after listening to Gravitational Forces. In some ways it's a much better cd since the songs tell some great stories and these are all REK originals instead of a few covers. I really like the song "Feelin' Good Again."
274. Gravitational Forces ~ Robert Earl Keen (last listen: 3-5 years): I came to REK through Squater. I really love this guy's voice and his style. Plus, he (REK not Sqauter) is good pals with Lyle Lovett. I'd have to say that the only song I really don't like on this disc is the title track. But REK's cover of "I Still Miss Someone" is one to not miss. I also love the kick off of "My Home Ain't in the Hall of Fame."

265. Masquerade ~ Wyclef Jean (last listen: 3-5 years)
266. The Preacher's Son ~ Wyclef Jean (last listen: never): I think I bought this cd out of habit. Like, well, Wyclef has a new disc I should get that. But I have never listened to it. So far, I really like Party to Damascus, which contains some actual Arabic. Although, all I can really make out is habibi which means darling.
267. Brushfire Fairytales ~ Jack Johnson (last listen: 1-3 years): I still remember the first time I heard Jack Johnson. All I could think it that this disc is something you want to listen to while sun bathing with a beer on the beach just hanging with your pals. I still think that. I know a lot of people like to criticize and say all his songs sound the same. It's a valid critique but I will still listen to all these discs. They are just so relaxing and soothing. Favorite songs: The News, Mudfootball, It's All Understood

A to Z cds: Day 56
259. Janet ~ Janet Jackson (last listen: 5+ years): I was actually kind of excited to listen to this cd because I remembered it being good. And then I relistened to it. I was wrong. How I ever thought this cd was good is really inexplicable. I mean, it's just bad. And long. So long. 25 songs long. I never thought it would end. Although, I do still like the song "That's The Way Love Goes."
260. Off the Wall ~ Michael Jackson (last listen: 1-3 years): Remember when Michael Jackson looked like a normal black man? Remember that? I do. It was when I LOVED him. Back when he still made funky music and didn't scare me with his predilection for little boys. Off the Wall is seriously a great pop album. I still groove to "Don't Stop til You Get Enough", "Rock With You", Workin' Day and Night" and "Burn This Disco Out". Those were the days.
261. Thriller ~ Michael Jackson (last listen: 1-3 years): I remember my sixth birthday vividly. It was at McDonald's and at the time that was like one of the best birthday parties you could. Plus, I got two copies of Michael Jackson's Thriller on vinyl. I wanted to keep both of them because I knew I would play them until they warped. My mom wanted me to return one copy so to thwart her I opened them both and then colored on the inner picture (you know the one where he was holding the little tiger). Man, my mom was pissed at me. Heh. Anyway, this is all to show that at age six I really wanted to be Mrs. Michael Jackson. Who knew that this is when I probably had my nest shot at getting a little one on one time with MJ, if you know what I mean. And yes, I did just gross my self out a little with that last over the line comment. Anyway, I still dig "Wanna Be Startin' Something", "PYT", "Beat It", "Human Nature", and of course, "Thriller".
262. Nothings Shocking ~ Jane's Addiction (last listen: 3-5 years): I never loved Jane's Addiction with the fervor that many of my friends did. Honestly, something about Perry Farrell really freaked me out after I watched Gift and I have never been fully comfortable with him since.
263. The Carnival ~ Wyclef Jean (last listen: 1-3 years): I have major love for this cd. I really like Wyclef and the vibe he brings in his music. He does smart stuff and fun stuff. I wish I could say I have a favorite song but really I can't; I just love all of the songs. But here are some youtube videos if you want to check them out: Gone Til November, Guantanamera, Anything Can Happen
ETA: I realized I was wrong and that "Stayin Alive" is still my favorite song on this disc.

I absolutely love the ballad 911 which features Mary J. Blige. I think its a really beautiful love song and it gives me chills every time I hear it. I also love the song Diallo. Have you ever been shot 41 times?

A to Z cds: Day 55
255. I am Sam Soundtrack ~ Various Artists (last listen: 3-5 years): Got this disc from Bill back in those good ol' IU days. This cd is bassically a bunch of Beatles covers. Which, you know, can go either way. I mean, some are great like Rufus Wainwright, Eddie Vedder, Ben Harper, Sarah McLachlan, and Sheryl Crow. Some, in my opinion, aren't so awesome like The Vines, and whoever Chocolate Genius is. I think it can be tough to try and remake songs from one of history's greatest band and for the most part these are some really fantastic efforts.
256. Our Endless Numbered Days ~ Iron and Wine (last listen: 1-3 years): Another one from Bill. I really love this cd, even if it is a bit on the melancholy side. I think that the guy behind Iron and Wine is very talented and I really like his voice.
257. Woman King ~ Iron and Wine (last listen: 6 months - 1 year): And it's Bill for the hat trick.

A to Z cds: Day 54
I bet you all thought I forgot about the great relistening project of 2007 (and very possibly continuing into 2008). Alas, I did not but I have kept forgetting my discs at home. Finally, I remembered them today but then left my lunch at home.
249. First Rays of A New Rising Sun ~ Jimi Hendrix (last listen: ?, possibly never. I honestly can't recall)
250. The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill ~ Lauryn Hill (last listen: 3-5 years): Hey, remember when Lauryn Hill wasn't crazy and she didn't make remarks about how she was against white people buying her music? Yeah, me too. This first solo effort is pretty amazing actually. It hits all the right notes in my book. There are great beats and a good variety of fun, upbeat songs and slow, thoughtful pieces. I still think "Everything is Everything" is pretty great.

MTV Unplugged No. 2.0 ~ Lauryn Hill (last listen: never): Honestly, I thought I had listened to this but then after I actually listened to this double live album I realized that I never had listened to it. Man, Lauren just goes on and on and on to the point where I am like just sing the frakkin song already. Clearly, these songs were not totally done but some of them were very good. It's a shame she has done lost her mind.
252. Best of John Lee Hooker, 1965-1974 ~ John Lee Hooker (last listen: 3-5 years): This cd is goodness. Like it could be anything else. But what I think I love most is that this disc kicks off with "One Bourbon, one Scotch, and One Beer" which is also the way that the best mix cd ever created and then lost by DiRRty and myself kicked off. Of course, it was overlayed with the most hilarious phone message left on my voice mail by Squater. It was, in a word, perfection. I am just sad that DiRRty's computer crashed and lost of all our hard work.
253. Love Songs ~ Billie Holiday (last listen: 5+ years): Seriously, is this an awesome day of music or what? It's a pretty great day when you start with Jimi Hendrix and end on Billie Holiday. This woman can really sing it. Man, she reaches into my soul with her voice.
254. Billie Holiday ~ Ken Burns Jazz Collection (last listen: 5+ years): She has this fabulous cover of Gloomy Sunday and it made me think of how similar and different it is from Bjork's cover of the same song.

It was a Friday night and we were watching MTV or M2 and getting ready to do bad things in his friend's dorm room (part of which included watching the very odd Jane's Addiction movie, Gift. It kind of freaked me out because Shane's new pals were a level of bad that I was not). The video for "Down by the Water" came on and I was transfixed. Who was this woman and how much do i love her voice? Shane and I went to the store the next day and I bought this disc.

A to Z cds: Day 52
238. Fight for Your Mind ~ Ben Harper (last listen: 6 months - 1 year): I love this disc. It's really where I think Ben hit his stride. It starts off solid with "Oppression" and continues to blow my mind with just about every song. If I had to choose my favorites I would essentially be listing 75% of the songs on the disc. The ones that aren't my faves are still good. If you have want to get into Ben this is the cd I suggest starting with. I will say that when I saw him play "Ground On Down" and "Fight For Your Mind" back in 2000 at Mississippi Nights it was truly a musically mind blowing experience. I do love me some Ben Harper.

240. Burn to Shine ~ Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals (last listen: 1-3 years): This cd was entrance into the world of Ben Harper. I remember it distinctly. I was in Chicago visiting Angie and Scott and we were listening to XRT and the song "Burn to Shine" was in heavy rotation. Every time it came on I asked who is this? Because they never said and then finally they did. I literally drove home and then bought the cd the next day. By the end of the week I owned three Ben Harper cds. Then I convinced Angie she needed to listen to Ben Harper too. I love it when I am right, which I so often am.

A to Z cds: Day 51
235. Songs in the Key of Indifference ~ Squater (real name withheld since he appears frequently here) (last listen: 1-3 years): Squater asked me to not include this cd in my listing but I told him that I had to keep the integrity of the listing. I don't know why he's so embarrassed about this disc. I think it's a very solid disc of folk songs. Maybe he doesn't like it because of the time of his life that this music represents. I remember that things were a bit tumultuous when he recorded this and his wretched ex accused him of some of these songs being about her but then she was a self-centered bitch who thought everything was about her (yes, I will tell you how I really feel, especially since I banned that person's ip address range from my old blog). He should have written a song about how I am such an awesome best friend who always listens to his fart jokes and his made up words. (ETA: I also have to listen to him wax poetic about strippers and hookers on way too many occasions.) But for me I listen to this disc when I am missing my best pal, guess I haven't missed you much in the past year, dollface. Plus, I love the song "I Never Conceded." Alas, only he can tell us why he doesn't like this disc anymore.
236. The Ultimate Darryl Hall and John Oates ~ Hall and Oates (last listen: 1-3 years) This double disc is little flashback into the life of young Jalehlabad. I recall that my childhood best pal (and still current pal) Andi and I made up an awesome dance routine to Maneater that we wanted to perform on Puttin' on the Hits. Remember that show? Anyway, anyone who doesn't love some Hall and Oates is really missing out. Plus, Oates has the second most awesome mustache of the 80's, coming in second only to Tom Selleck.
237. Welcome to the Cruel World ~ Ben Harper (last listen: 1-3 years): This isn't the first Ben Harper cd I bought but it's the earliest cd of his that I own. This early disc isn't his best but you can definately see his future trajectory and the artist he will become. That's not to say that this cd doesn't have some gems, because it totally does. I've always liked the song "Whipping Boy."

A to Z cds: Day 50
231. Grease Soundtrack ~ Various Artists (last listen: 5+ years): Just because I haven't listened to this soundtrack in over five years doesn't mean I don't know all the words to the songs still. I have seen this movie more times than I can recall. My mom took me to see Grease in the theater and she said even though I was a toddler I was transfixed. The movie is pretty amazing and actually quite dirty, which I did not realize until my teenage years. And as much as I love this soundtrack, what I really am jonesing for is the Grease 2 Soundtrack. Anyway, the only thing that really annoys me about this cd is that the songs are not in order of how they fall in the movie. It makes no sense to have "You're The One That I Want" before "Sandy."
232. Dookie ~ Green Day (last listen: 1-3 years): Oh early, Green Day. I think if you were alive and anywhere near the ages of 11-30 you had to own this cd. If you didn't well, then you were kind of an idiot. This cd holds up pretty well and I still love Basketcase.
233. American Idiot ~ Green Day (last listen: 3-6 months): I think this disc is amazing. It really pushed Green Day into a whole new place musically but also kept them true to their punk roots. I really love the song American Idiot because it so perfectly reflects many of my thoughts and feelings.
234. Lost and Gone Forever ~ Guster (last listen: 1-3 years): Remember when MTV played videos instead of shows? I do. But people have been bitching about this for years now so MTV created M2. And I was happy because I could still get my music fix.
1999 was kind of a pivotal year for me. I was very unhappy; living at home with very few friends in the area; a college graduate but not working in the field where I had a degree because I really hated that field; working at Target and, in general, stagnating. But my parents had satellite so when they were at work and I was at home I would watch a lot of M2 because daytime television, except Passions which is so damn funny, is pretty bad or it was in 1999 (I mean, how many times can you watch Judge Judy?). One day, it was summertime, I heard this song come on M2 and I couldn't get it out of my head. That song was Fa Fa by Guster. I tried to get the song out of my head and I couldn't. I would find myself singing it and relating to it: "When you look in the mirror/Wish you were somebody else/Just a perfect reflection/You and no one else/Minutes run into hours/Hours run into days/You're still waiting for someone who never ever came." Man, Guster, sing it; preach it! I bought that cd about three days later. I love this whole cd. It really touches something inside of me and it makes me feel alive and okay that sometimes life knocks me around. Because in the end, I quit Target and went to grad school and then went to another grad school and somehow ended up a librarian. So, thanks, Guster. You really helped out a lost girl. I really need to invest in their other discs.

A to Z cds: Day 49
227. American Beauty ~ Grateful Dead (last listen: 3-5 years): I was going to talk about how this cd reminded me of my freshman year of college and this crush I had on this hippie boy but then I watched Freaks and Geeks. And now, all this cd reminds me of is Lindsay Weir and me wondering what would have happened on a second season of Freaks and Geeks? Because Mama and Papa Weir were not going to respond kindly to Lindsay blowing off the academic summit. Anyway, I do like this cd and it's nice to pop it in every now and then.
228. White Ladder ~ David Gray (last listen: 1-3 years): I think this disc has some really beautiful songs on it. Plus, there is just something about David Gray's voice that I really love.
